Sir John Jeane, Fart,
Government House..
Dear Sir,
In reply to your enquiry under yesterday's date on behalf of His Excellency
The Governor, as to our opinion of a Gold
Currency scheme for this Colony, we endorse
the views expressed by Mr. C. S. Sharp,
Chairman of the Hongkong Chamber of Commerce
at their last. Meeting that while China
remains on a Silver basis, such a change
would set up a barrier and seriously
endanger the prosperity of trade here.
The Colony is so allied to China, and
largely dependent upon her for its existence.
We are; dear Sir,
Your obedient servants,
Daiso Cr
